TYPES OF CLASSES
Beginner
A basic introduction to all things yoga, with an emphasis on body alignment, inner awareness and moving with the breath. Students are encouraged to work within their abilities and limitations.
Chakra & Energy Yoga
A mindful, meditative class in which the student focuses on various chakras (energy centers) in the body to promote a feeling of well being. Poses are held comfortably, for extended periods with an awareness phase following each pose.
Gentle
A gentle relaxing class designed to slow down the body and mind. Students are encouraged to work within their abilities and limitations.
Power Yoga
A vigorous, vinyasa (flowing) style yoga class that incorporates a varying set of sequences from week to week. By mindfully combining the breath with skillful movement the student will explore the strength and flexibility of both body and mind. This class begins and ends with a short silent sitting meditation.
Yin Yoga
An introspective practice in which gentle poses are held for 3 to 5 minutes, while being encouraged to internally dialogue with the body. Focuses on the training of the connective tissue of the hips, lower spine and pelvis in order to decrease degeneration while increasing mobility. Appropriate for beginner and advanced students alike.
Short Form Ashtanga
more traditional yoga class that begins with sun salutations (warm-ups), then moves through a series of specific postures in a prescribed order
good for new students who want to learn the foundations upon which all ashtanga classes are based, or existing students who wish to expand upon their understanding of basic postures
practice is generally without music
class is followed by an optional seated meditation (approx. 20 minutes)
Slow vinyasa Basics
This class is an inward jury, articulating breath and posture in such a way that students begin to explore feeling postures, rather than seeing poses. From the slow progressive sequences, to the longer holding postures, the entire body and mind are brought into balance in this focused yet calming class.
In this class students are encouraged to explore all the benefits of each posture within the boundaries and framework of their own individual expressions.
From the first yoga class to the development of a daily practice, this class is meant to serve all students.
